What is #ShareTheMicInCyber?
#ShareTheMicInCyber is a movement started by Camille Stewart and Lauren Zabierek with the aim of addressing issues stemming from systemic racism in cybersecurity. The social media campaign highlights the experiences of Black practitioners in this field, catalyzes a critical conversation on race in the industry, and shines a light on Black practitioners’ accomplishments to showcase them as experts in their fields all while creating professional opportunities and bringing the cyber community together.
#ShareTheMicInCyber started as an online conversation on Twitter and LinkedIn but has become so much more! #ShareTheMicInCyber’s is breaking down barriers in the cyber industry through individual and collective ACTion. The dedication and vulnerability of the cyber community is driving the growth and sustained impact of #ShareTheMicInCyber through creativity, partnerships, and shared desired to drive change. Each participant and partnership is seeking to breakdown the barriers to entry in to the field created by systemic racism.
Let’s keep the conversation and the ACTion going!
"The lack of diversity in the cybersecurity industry at all levels exacerbates the existential challenges of our era by limiting our ability to identify and address threats, innovate, and meaningfully cooperate with partners. The #ShareTheMicinCyber campaign individualizes the work to eradicate systemic racism."
— Camille Stewart
