#ShareTheMicInCyber is focused on creating opportunity and accelerating the innovative potential of technology through inclusion and belonging. This movement remains at the forefront of harnessing and operationalizing the tech community to solve our toughest national security challenges.

What began as a rallying cry and an open door to tough conversations has grown into a movement that is breaking down barriers in the cyber industry through individual and collective ACTion. The dedication and vulnerability of the cyber community is driving the growth and sustained impact of #ShareTheMicInCyber through creativity, partnerships, and shared desired to drive change.

What is #ShareTheMicInCyber?

#ShareTheMicInCyber: A Movement that Adapts to the Moment

#ShareTheMicInCyber was founded by Camille Stewart Gloster and Lauren Zabierek to confront the structural inequities in cybersecurity—particularly those that have excluded Black professionals, women, and gender minorities from platforms, influence, and decision-making power. What began as a bold social media campaign quickly became something far more enduring: a movement rooted in action, grounded in community, and designed to evolve.

The original campaign spotlighted the lived experiences, brilliance, and leadership of Black cybersecurity practitioners, catalyzing a critical industry-wide conversation. But #ShareTheMicInCyber has never been just about conversation—it’s about ACTion. Every participant, partner, and platform built through the movement has worked to dismantle barriers to entry, growth, and recognition across the ecosystem.

Adaptive by Design

#ShareTheMicInCyber continues to evolve in response to the needs of the moment. From viral visibility to institutional influence, the movement has remained focused on one core principle: voice is power, equity is security, and action drives change.

Explore the first two manifestations of this evolving movement:

  • The Social Media Era

A powerful public campaign that mobilized cross-sector amplification, sparked new collaborations, and expanded the definition of what cybersecurity leadership looks like—while breaking silos and building networks that never existed before. Practitioners were not only seen—they were heard, hired, quoted, and invited to shape the field in real time.

  • The STMIC x New America Fellowship

A reimagined model of policy engagement and thought leadership, designed to inject fresh, historically excluded voices into live cybersecurity and technology policy conversations. This fellowship isn’t about studying diversity—it’s about disrupting the echo chamber.

By elevating leaders whose insights are often overlooked in traditional research and policymaking, the fellowship helps unlock paradigm-shifting ideas and challenge status-quo thinking on security, resilience, governance, and innovation.

While rooted in its founding commitment to uplifting Black professionals, the fellowship has naturally expanded to include a broader spectrum of underrepresented voices—reflecting the evolving needs of the cybersecurity ecosystem and a continued focus on bold, transformative thinking.

📅 Mark your calendars: A third chapter will be announced this October, in honor of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Stay tuned—we’re just getting started.

"The lack of diversity in the cybersecurity industry at all levels exacerbates the existential challenges of our era by limiting our ability to identify and address threats, innovate, and meaningfully cooperate with partners. The #ShareTheMicinCyber campaign individualizes the work to eradicate systemic racism."

— Camille Stewart Gloster
